With 1986’s Life of Dreams New York’s Crumbsuckers redefined the sound of modern hardcore with the precision of Bay Area speed metal. They balanced arpeggios and aggro and gave it a pissed off voice with the gravel-tonsil-ed Chris Notaro. With songs precision blasters like “Trapped” or “The Longest War”, Crumbsuckers were crossover before the crossover – an amalgam of rage and musicality as important as West Coasters like Suicidal Tendencies, Excel and Cryptic Slaughter, but dealt with the force of a baseball bat to the skull. New York style, that is.
